My name is Monique Joan. I am an aspiring writer and reader of Horror and Supernatural fiction and non-fiction from Australia.

​

Growing up, I have always been inspired and shaped completely by the Horror genre and the Occult. My whole life is centered around horror, Halloween, ghosts, witchcraft (yes, I am a practitioner), legends, lore, mythology, and anything that goes BUMP in the night. Safe to say, I practically eat, sleep, and breathe the strange and unusual in my daily life.

I have been writing short stories and poetry since I was a child, but I never imagined in my wildest dreams that it would amount to anything much in my later years. My writing flares were always quite spontaneous while I was growing up, but regardless, I knew that every time I sat down to write a story or a poem on a whim, I felt a spark and a deep connection that would dazzle and thrill me; an addicting feeling. Soon enough, I started to figure that this might be my calling - but if I were to take it anywhere, I first needed to brush up on my skills. So, with that, I went back to University to study Professional Writing and Editing for one year, and it was truly a game changer in my life that I am so thankful for. Writing was no longer a moment of spontaneity for me, but something I wanted to do every single day - and for the most part, I have been (except when I suffer from severe writers block - writers block can go graciously die in a deep dark hole!). 

 

Aside from writing, I have a strong love for reading and collecting books, so you can bet I have a long string of authors whom I admire in the genre and sub-genres of Horror - authors such as, Stephen King, Susan Hill, Edgar Allan Poe, H.P Lovecraft, Clive Barker, Junji Ito, Emily Carroll, Ira Levin, Grady Hendrix, Neil Gaiman, John Pinkney (non-fiction), and so on. 

 

My lifelong dream is to someday become a published author of Horror and Supernatural fiction and non-fiction. In my spare time, I love reading, watching movies and exploring haunted locations (abandoned places, ghost hunting). At present, I am currently studying to become a Library Technician.

So please join me, as I dive down deep into the world of books and unspoken things, of ghouls and ghosts and strange winged things.
